There’s something utterly magical about summer in Troon – the golden glow of the sun melting into the sea, the salty breeze off the Firth of Clyde, and the relaxed charm of coastal living.

And at the heart of it all sits our beautiful hotel Piersland House.

There are endless options to happily while away a long summers day in Troon. Let us give you some ideas!

1. Walks Along South Beach

One of the best ways to start the day – take a stroll down South Beach. Just a short walk (3 minutes!) from Piersland House, this expansive stretch of sand is ideal for morning reflection or a post-breakfast wander. With views to the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig on clear days, it’s a feast for the eyes and balm for the soul.

For the more adventurous you can walk south along the coast to Prestwick beach, or, for a longer walk (2-3 hours) you can walk north along Barassie beach to Irvine.

2. Golfers’ Paradise

Of course, golf lovers will be in their element. Royal Troon is literally a stone’s throw away from our front door, and several other top courses are just a short drive from the hotel. Tee off with the sea breeze in your hair and the sound of waves in the distance—it’s golfing heaven.

3. Kite Surfing and Coastal Thrills

If it’s a thrill you are looking for, kite surfing on Troon’s north beach offers an exhilarating contrast to the calmness of South Beach. Watching the colourful kites dance across the skyline is a treat in itself, but taking to the water? That’s an adrenaline rush you won’t forget.

4. Sea Swimming

If you prefer to stay closer to the water, sea swimming in Troon is a brisk and a truly exhilarating experience! Plunging into the clear, cold waters off South Beach with the Isle of Arran on the horizon is as refreshing as it gets in Scotland, but please always be mindful of tides, currents, and cold-water shock, and never swim alone.

5. Exploring Ayrshire’s Coastal Gems

Piersland House also makes a great base for day trips to other seaside towns.

Prestwick is a mere 12 minute drive! Or, travel 19 minutes down the coast to Ayr for shopping and ice cream. You can also take a scenic drive to the charming village of Dunure with its clifftop castle ruins, or go north to explore the artsy vibe of Largs, complete with a ferry trip to Millport.

6. Drinks in the Garden & Sunset Views

After a day of sun, sea, and sport, there’s nothing better than relaxing with a drink in the Piersland beer garden. Whether you’re sipping a crisp white wine or enjoying a locally brewed pint, the atmosphere is always friendly and laid-back.

As the sun begins to dip, settle into one of the garden chairs and watch the sky turn orange, pink, and lavender—sunsets at Piersland are pure poetry.

The Perfect Summer Escape

Whether you’re a golfer, a beach walker, a thrill-seeker, or simply someone who loves soaking up summer’s slower pace, Piersland House in Troon is the ideal place to stay. With its elegant rooms, stunning location, and warm hospitality, it turns a simple summer break into a string of unforgettable moments.
